ProQuest import citations option

Currently ProQuest does not allow direct import of citations into RefWorks ( the fix should be ready by June). The second option on the list is doable . Here s a short video by Jing on how to do the second option.

Attach your articles to your citations

RefWorks allows you to attach files to your citation record. This means that you can attach the fulltext of the article to your citation and have everything together in one place.

Download the file (pdf, word, or other file) from the databases source.
Put the citation record into RefWorks

Click on edit for that record

Notice the word "Attachments" then "Browse" find it then click on the file on your computer and once it is selected, Click on "Add attachment"

It remain connected and you will see a small image of the file. You can click on it through "View"

RefWorks offers three levels of training at your computer with webinars.

You select a time that is convenient for you and then sign in and attend.

RefShare

RefShare is located under tools. It allows you to share a list of references with another person or group of people. You list the email and then that person is sent the refshare link. You can share all folders or just a particular folder. Prakash and I tried this out and it worked. He is planning to try it with his students so that they may share and comment on particular articles.

pdf file adding to RefWorks

If you have received a pdf file of your article from Inter-Library Loan (ILL) or elsewhere, it is treated as an image.
Therefore Refworks can not read the tags .
You have to manually add a new reference in the template witht he information from the pdf file.

If you are able to re-do the search and the database or web site lists the citation information, then perhaps you can import at that time.

Student teams in Eng 205 and Eng 305 will be preparing the workshops and marketing them too.

Technical troubleshooting

If you are having trouble accessing Write-n-cite or refworks, check the cookie level on your computer.
On Internet Explorer , you find it under TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS
then click on the tab PRIVACY.

In order for RefWorks to work, it must be set at least as low as medium-high access.
RefWorks will not work with no cookies or high access to cookies.

Select ONLINE CATALOG or DATABASES

Eastern Washington Libraries is now an option , so you can search withing th ecatalog and import the citations for those resources into RefWorks from this one location.

Importing web page information

Ref Grab-it

This tool "grabs" some information from web pages for a citation. It is rarely complete because most web pages do not have standard information-- but it is a start.

Use the Ref Grab-it under RefWorks tools.

CAUTION:
Your toolbars for IE or Firefox and any other toolbars you have must allow pop-ups.

Firefox-- you just drag the link to your open toolbar page

IE , you may have to right click and add under favorites- links.

Then when you are on a web page-- click RefGrab-it and RefWorks will appear and ask if you want to import the record about the web page.
